Ashley McDowell named SLC Hitter of the Week

rp_primary_170210_Ashley_McDowell_2BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University senior left fielder Ashley McDowell was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week the SLC office announced Tuesday.

McDowell hit .625 over five games at the Wooo Pig Classic hosted by the University of Arkansas over the weekend. McDowell was 10-of-16 with three RBIs, two doubles, two triples, one home run and 11 runs scored. She had a slugging percentage of 1.188 and an on-base percentage of .632. McDowell had at least one hit in every game and had four multi-hit games at the tournament. The Cardinals went 2-3 on the weekend, defeating IUPUI, splitting with Nebraska and dropping two games to Arkansas.

"Ashley had a great week," LU coach Holly Bruder said. "To do it against the caliber of teams we faced makes it even more impressive."

It was a record-setting weekend for McDowell, who set LU career marks with 20 home runs, 33 doubles and 268 total bases. Her three RBIs gave her 93 for her career, one shy of Jenna Holland's school record of 94.

McDowell looks to continue her hot hitting this weekend when the Cardinals (7-13) host Northwestern State in a three-game Southland Conference series. LU and the Lady Demons will play a single game Friday and a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Ashley is an alumni of Vision Fastpitch playing for coaches Martin & Kim Poole.  Stay tuned for all of the latest softball news.
